The Best Practices Motor Challenge Program

The primary goal of the program is to increase the market penetration of Energy-Efficient industrial electric motor-driven systems.

Best Practices, a program of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT), works with industry to identify plant-wide opportunities for energy savings and process efficiency. Through the implementation of new technologies and systems improvements, companies across the United States are achieving immediate savings results.

Because nearly 70% of all electricity used in industry is consumed by motor systems, increases in the energy efficiency of existing motor systems will lead to dramatic nationwide energy savings.

The Best Practices Motor Challenge Program is an industry/government partnership designed to help industry capture 5 billion kWh per year of electricity savings. The program was Initiated in 1993 as part of DOE's renewed effort to promote voluntary industry/government partnerships to improve energy efficiency, economic competitiveness, and the environment.

The program's official mission carried out through its Allied Partners, such as SM Service & Technology, is to deliver the products and services that assist customers in gaining a competitive advantage in managing their electric motor systems while saving energy and enhancing environmental quality.

As an Allied Partner, SM Service & Technology can provide energy solutions that will create an instant and continuous return on investment. Results of many energy reduction projects can be reviewed at the OIT Best Practices Case Studies page.
